A San Francisco school district may remove an 83-year-old mural of President George Washington from, ironically, George Washington High School because it “traumatizes students and community members.”

The mural includes other historical images that the district claims are offensive to Native Americans and blacks.

The Washington Times reports four public meetings were held with an activist group arguing before the district that the mural “glorifies slavery, genocide, colonization, manifest destiny, white supremacy, oppression, etc.”

With the majority of the board agreeing with the group, the district superintendent and staff are now considering the best course of action.
